Your FIRE roadmap

FIRE · Basics

FIRE is like a long car journey to a destination — only with money instead of kilometers. Three things decide whether you get there: the distance, your pace and the time you allow for it.

These three axes are connected like a triangle of tension: if you turn one, the other two shift. A higher pace shortens the time. A shorter distance needs less pace. More time allows a more relaxed pace.

DistanceYour FIRE target capital. How much wealth it takes for investment income to carry you permanently.
PaceWhat moves you forward: your savings rate and the compound-interest effect of your existing wealth.
TimeWhen you reach your goal — the result of distance and pace (and a little patience).
EventsIn the middle of the triangle: inheritance, salary jump, a family member needing care, a market crash. They affect all three axes at the same time.
