Time — when you arrive
FIRE · BasicsThe time axis has two faces: your desired FIRE age (what you plan) and the calculated arrival (what results from distance and pace). The two values can drift apart — this tension is one of the most important adjusting screws in your FIRE roadmap.
You turn time directly by adjusting your desired age in the Retirement module. You turn it indirectly by changing distance or pace — until the calculation reaches your plan line.
Direct lever:Bringing your FIRE age forward from 55 to 50 sets a more ambitious target. The plan delta in the Time card then immediately shows whether distance and pace are enough for it.
Indirect levers:Raise your savings rate or lower your expenses — both bring the calculated arrival closer to your desired age.
The tension:If you want to arrive at 45 instead of 55, you need to either raise your savings rate, lower your planned retirement budget, or choose a combination.
