Net withdrawal rate
Cash flowThe numbers shown come from a sample profile for illustration – in the calculator you see your own values.
The net withdrawal rate shows your annual expenses relative to your net worth. It is the inverse of the FU ratio and measures how sustainable your spending is: could your lifestyle be funded from your wealth if you stopped working today?
This metric does not show what you actually withdraw today, but whether your current lifestyle would be permanently sustainable if you started FIRE today.
Your personal target withdrawal rate is 4% – the Trinity Study (1998) value, considered safe over 30 years.
How it is calculated
Withdrawal rate = (annual expenses ÷ net worth) × 100
Good to know
Your target rate: 4%Under 3% = very conservative · Up to 4% = sustainable (your goal) · Over 4% = warning · Over 6% = critical
